Introduction

Welcome to Mrs. Stuart's Webquest: Can you guess what these animal's eat?

Grade Level: 1

Subject: Science

Standard: California Life Science

2.Plants and animals meet their needs in different ways. As a basis for understanding this concept:

d.Students know how to infer what animals eat from the shapes of their teeth (e.g., sharp teeth: eats meat; flat teeth: eats plants).

Mrs. Stuart is thinking about getting a new pet and doesn't know which one to get. She wants a pet that eats plants. She is thinking about getting either a Horse, Lion, or Zebra.

Your goal is to learn about different animal's teeth to determine which pet Mrs. Stuart should get.

Task

Students will get into groups of 3 and assign themselves a job for each animal.

1 student will be the Group Leader (Navigates Websites and Videos and Writes Key Words)

1 student will be the Artist (Draws Teeth and Animals)

1 student will be the Fact Finder (Writes down facts found in resources)

After learning about each animal the students will change jobs so that they have been in all three positions at least once.

Each group will complete a Animal Teeth Prediction Sheet, Animal Teeth Diary Sheet, and Journal Prompt to answer the question, Which Pet should Mrs. Stuart get?

Process

Task 1: Students will get into groups and know what their jobs are.

Task 2: Students will complete Animal Teeth Predictions on the Prediction Sheet. After they will turn it into the teacher.

Task 3: Students will view various resources on animal teeth and complete the Animal Teeth Diary Sheet.

Group Leader: Look out for these words: carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore.

Teacher Page

This is my first webquest and was written as a school assignment for learning about animal's teeth for the California first grade standard. As first graders struggle with the internet and reading this webquest was built for teacher assistance since the students would not be reading the instructions on their own.
