Introduction

Keeping yourself informed about food labels are a way to improve your overall health and wellbeing as you will be able to make educated and informed choices.

Food labelling help us to keep informed about all the names, makes and labels which appear on food and by means of this lesson you can understand those labels and thus think carefully before purchasing a product.

Task

Research using the Internet, text books and library resources to answer the following questions:

1. List the statements that are required to appear on a food label in Australia.

2. Find an image of a barcode of a food product manufactured in Australia, and label each section of the barcode.

3. Discuss what happens if the requirements of a food label are NOT adhered to

4. Write a response to the following statement: "Food labels have both advantages and disadvantages for consumers and manufacturers".
