Moon, Stars and Sun

Introduction

Have you ever wondered what it felt like to look up in the night sky and see the moon? What about star sizes?

There are many interesting things to learn about in the solar system. All of my first-graders need to buckle up and get ready to take off.

We'll return in 45 minutes, so don't worry.

BLAST OFF! 3....2...1...

Task

We will learn about celestial things including the moon, stars, and sun in this WebQuest. Wewill learn about the many types of stars and why the moon appears to be changing shape.

Process

Step 1: Divide the students into four to five groups. Every student will require a Science notebook and a pencil.

Step 2: Divide the three notecards into two sets and distribute them throughout the classroom. You'll assist the kids in rotating stations so that no one group does the same thing twice.

Step 3: In their Science Notebooks, each group will note the Station questions from each card. Students can scan the code, answer the questions, and finish the artwork once everyone is ready.

Step 4: Have each group write a paragraph describing what they learned and what they liked best about this class after they've visited all three stations.

And don't forget to pull your parents outside to talk about the constellations. I also have laid out some books about the different planets in our solar system and there are notecards for you to scan to watch quick videos. If there is anything else you are interested in let me know so we can explore as a class.
