Due to recent advances in technology, the United States of America has discovered the process of time travel. Your expertise is needed to alter history and save millions of lives.

Task
Your Mission:
Travel back in time to 1938, prior to the build up of World War 2. Make contact with Adolf Hitler. Convince him that the path he is about to embark on is not only going to cost Germany millions of lives, but also the world.
To complete this mission, you must use documentation such as photos, facts, figures, and articles that will persuade him to strive for peace rather than destruction.
Accurate research of World War 2 is critical. Make it count, Soldier!

Your Weapon (A Letter to Hitler):
You will write a letter to Hitler. You must give a detailed account of your findings and research. Present your letter based on a timeline and events of the war. Stress to him also that his actions will come at a great price to his people, the world, and eventually himself. He will not win the war, but he can help prevent one.
Evaluation
A Letter to Hitler:
Step 1 - Research. Students will research information about the Second World War using the links provided.
Step 2 - Letter. Using the research information gathered, students will write a two page letter to Adolf Hitler, concerning the atrocities he is responsible for, how it affected the world, and how it will ultimately lead to his defeat.
Step 3 - Photo Evidence. Students will print pictures of the destruction left by Hitler as evidence of his crimes against humanity and his definite defeat.
Rubric:
Letter (50 points):
- 0 points - Student provides no written evidence and understanding of research in letter.
- 20 points - Student provides minimal evidence and understanding of research in letter.
- 35 points - Student provides sufficient evidence and understanding of research in letter.
- 50 points - Student exceeded optimal proof of evidence and understanding of research in letter.
Photo Evidence (50 points):
- Each printed photo is worth 10 points. A maximum of five photos will be accepted.
- Photos must be relevant in relation to the letter written.
Conclusion
Your actions in informational combat and research have proven your value and worth to the United States Army. You have completed your mission and stopped Adolf Hitler from terrorizing humanity. Your country and the world owe you a debt of gratitude for your service.
You mission success has brought you a deeper understanding of the evil that lurks in this world. Now that you have attained this knowledge, you know how and why you should prevent acts like this from occurring in the future.
