In the next weeks you will learn much about the Middle Ages!
At the end of the project you wíll present your knowledge to the class!
Read "TASK" to find out how to work with this WebQuest.
Task
The framework, rules and tasks of the webquest:
You will have 6 lessons (in the computer room) to read about a topic and to prepare a presentation.
You will present your results in the last week.
Follow these steps for success:
1. Break into 5 groups of 3 students.
2. Each group will focus on a different aspect of the Middle Ages. Here are the topics and guiding questions:
group 1: Life in a Medieval City
- What did a medieval city look like?
- What was different to today's cities?
- Who was/ was not a citizen?
- Was it dangerous to live in a medieval city?
- Explain who or what "crafts" and "guilds" were.
group 2: The Feudal System - Peasants and their Lords
- What did the feudal system look like? Who was at the top/bottom?
- What was different to today's society?
- What was unfair about the system? What should have been changed?
- Who would you have rather been - a peasant or a lord? Explain you answer!
- Explain what a "feudal due" and an "oath of allegiance" was.
group 3: The Age of Crusades - Christians and Muslims at War
- What was a "crusade"? Who took part in it and what was their aim?
- There were different kinds of crusades - what were their differences?
- Many people died during crusades - explain how and why many people dies on and off the battlefields.
- Explain why the Christian crusaders wanted to "free" Jerusalem.
- Explain what a "pilgrimage" is.
group 4: Columbus and the New World - European Discoveries
- Who was Christopher Columbus? Summarize the most important facts about him.
- Why did Columbus and his crew travel across the Atlantic? What was their "great discovery"?
- How did Columbus treat the Indians? Give examples! What would you done the same?
- Explain why Christopher Columbus never knew that he discovered a new continent.
- Explain what "to missionize" means.
group 5: The Fall of the Aztec and Inca Empires
- Who were the Aztexs? Summarize the most important facts about them.
- Who were the Inca? Summarize the most important facts about them.
- Who were Hernan Cortes? Summarize the most important facts about him.
- Who were Francisca Pizarro? Summarize the most important facts about him.
- What did the Europeans find in the New World? Why did they want to conquer it?
3. Read the handouts and follow the links to the online texts that you find in "PROCESS".
4. Prepare a presentation of your results for the class! Either do a PowerPoint Presentation, a poster or a scripted role play.
NOTICE! Each student must be part of the presentation and has to present for 2 minutes.
Every part of the presentation will be graded individually, so work faithfully!

Evaluation
Your teacher will grade the following aspects of your presentation:
