Introduction
Welcome to Middle School English via WebQuest where you will be exploring different essay writing styles. There will be an emphasis placed on collaboration with your classmates and bringing together thoughts, ideas and experiences. Teamwork will be the number skill needed to put together an amazing presentation.
Task
Research 4 writing techniques Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, and Argumentative. Each group will be responsible for using the knowledge gained to create a 3-minute PowerPoint (5-8 slides) presentation explaining the writing technique assigned.
Learning Objectives:
Explore different writing techniques.
Describe how to formulate a thesis statement, body and conclusion.
Identify which writing technique can be best used to write the appropriate essays.
Process
Groups of 5 classmates will create 4 separated groups.
Step 1:(Day 1-2)

Each group will assign 5 Working Titles for everyone.
Researcher (responsible for bringing all group ideas together)
Collaborator (works with the teacher and classmates; confirms the group is on the right path to success)
Digital Designer (creates PowerPoint based on the idea collected from group)
Proofreader (works closely with the Digital Designer to ensure all information meets assignment criteria's)
Presenter (showcases the group assignment for the classroom NOTE: All Group members must be present)
Step 2: (Day 3-4)
The group will begin to create one slide on PowerPoint for each item needed to create an essay.
Slides required:
Introduction
Explanation of what is needed in the thesis statement ( Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, and Argumentative)
Explanation of what the body of an essay needs ( Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, and Argumentative)
Explanation of how to create a Conclusion ( Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, and Argumentative)
Reference Page (where did your research come from)
Step 3: (Day 5)
Presentation Day
Evaluation
The group's well-organized essay will be evaluated based on the following guidelines:
1.Are there 5 slide to present and are they titled:
Did the group proofread the presentation?
Note: Do not rely on spellcheck or auto correct.
2. Creativity:
Did the group grab the viewers?
Font size, color, and set-up
3. Conclusion:
Did the group give all research sources used to create the presentation?
4. Are the slides easy to understand for others to follow (classroom input)
5. Teacher's Feedback

Great job! Hopefully through this WebQuest you should now feel comfortable with grabbing the attention of your reader. Your thoughts have successfully been constructed into well-organized thesis statements, bodies and conclusions thus making you all awesome writers.
Now that you've done the hard part, you will be creating a final essay independently which will contribute to your final grade. Based on the list below choose which writing technique you will use to create your final essay:
Persuasive Essay (convince the reader to ride a bike versus walking to school)
Argumentative Essay (explain to the reading a comparison on the advantages of going to bed early versus staying up late)
Descriptive Essay (explain to your reader how to construct a vision board outlining your future goals)
