Michigan's journey to statehood-how did Michigan become a state?
In 1835, Michigan territory enacted its first constitution, because of a war with Ohio over a boundary, statehood was delayed. In 1837 President Andrew Jackson signed a bill making Michigan the 26th state of the United State.
