Introduction
This week I will be typing about a landform in Georgia. My landform in Georgia is located in Fannin County. It is also located 90 miles north of Atlanta. My landform was incorporated in Fannin County in 1887 by Colonel Michael McKinney.
Task
My landform has 300+ miles of hiking trails. And it is popular to go Horseback riding on its trails. There are 12 waterfalls within 30 miles of it. In downtown of my landform visitors can stand in two states at once McCaysville , Georgia and Copperhill , Tennessee. It also has a Railway that transports visitors on vintage railcars from a 1905 depot trough the countryside along the Toccoa River. Fannin County is called the "Trout Capital of Georgia". My landform is the second oldest range in the whole world. Over 1 Billion years ago, shifts in our Earth's tectonic plates caused my landform to form in a system of peaks and valleys that span over 8 states!
Process
The mountain range stretches (615 miles) and is a relatively narrow (5 to 65 miles) wide. My landform crosses the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. My landform is in Georgia because it is so big. It is one of the biggest mountains in Georgia.
Evaluation
With more than 1,200 miles of boundary, development encroaches along much of it's parkway. Hundred's of utility rights-of-way and roads cross it's length. Agricultural activities both on and off the Parkway logging up to it's boundaries have changed large patches of vegetation and fragmented remaining areas. Non-native pest and diseases are killing a variety of native plants and animals. Other exotic species are competing with or displacing natives from their habitat. Both air and water pollution have degraded entire systems along my landforms parkway.
Conclusion
My landform is called the Blue Ridge Mountains and it is one of my favorite landforms ever.
