The Eureka Stockade.

Introduction

 

The Eureka Stockade was a rebellion that occurred in the goldfields of Ballarat in 1854. It involved the uprising of the miner's against the troopers and the govenments mining licence. The Eureka Stockade is an important event in our history, helping shape modern democracy in Australia and our Australian identity.

It is 1854 and you are a  journalists for The Argus Newspaper, reporting on stories around the goldfields. You are about to get your biggest break.... reporting the events of the Eureka Stockade to your readers in Melbourne town.

Write a brief report (one or two paragrapghs) for the newspaper and we will collate all the reports of the class to make a complete newspaper.

- an account of something you saw.

- an interview with someone present (e.g a miner, a trooper, the wife of a miner, Peter Lalor )

- an account of what an individual minner or tropper did during the stockade.

- your opion on that  happened.

- a report on what happened the next day.
