Measures of Central Tendency WebQuest

Introduction

This Web Quest will serve as an introduction to our Unit 3, and Measures of Central Tendency. You will complete the worksheet, give to you in class, by using the websites, and links provided in this Web Quest. We will review the information, and clarify any questions you may have tomorrow in class.

The Worksheet will be due tomorrow, at the beginning of class.

Task

You will utilize each link provided to answer the questions on the worksheet. Directions for each website will be provided.

We will first define a list of terms that are necessary for understanding this unit. These terms do need to be memorized, as we will have a Vocab Quiz on these terms on Friday.

After that, we will put the words to practice and calculate some of the things that we researched.

Process

Step 1: Use Website 1 to define the following terms:

a) Measures of Central Tendency                             f) Outlier

b) Mean                                                                     g) Resistant Measure

c) Median                                                                  h) Trimmed Mean

d) Mode                                                                     i) Weighted Mean

**Words g, h, and i will not be on the website provided. You need to find their definitions elsewhere. (Google will be fine)

Step 2: Visit Website 2 and find the Mean, Median, Mode, and Range of the ages of players on the team.

Fill out the chart on your worksheet, with the player's name and age.

Step 3: Watch the video in Website 3 and write down the example that is shown in the video. Then, find the 5% Trimmed Mean for the Following data:

Step 4: Watch the video in Website 4 and write down the example that is shown in the video. Then, find the Weighted Mean for the Following data:

Sam wants to buy a new camera, and decides on the following rating system:
