Meaning Negotiation in English Speaking Classes

Introduction

language is used for communication and interavtion among people. Whatever language is, we use it both verbally and nonverbally in everyday activity. In other words,  language is a fundamental part of human beings. 

Task

1. To find out the situation that makes negotiation of meaning occurs in the classroom. 

2. To find out the eays how meaning negotiation is conducted in the classroom. 

Process

1. Directly,  it gives information about negotiation of meaning in English Department students. 

2. Make them more motivated to use negotiation of meaning when practice in the school

3. Providing teacher in a speaking class to know that quality of negotiation process that had happened in the class. 

Evaluation

1. Many students using Indonesian or javanese at english speaking class. 

2. The students afraid of using English at speaking classroom because they still think about grammar and structure.. 

3. The students still can't understand what the meaning of teacher say.

Conclusion

1. Teacher was the first person that initiated negotiation in most of the oral activities in the classroom. 

2. Most negotiation happened because there had been inaudible speech or a little information coming from the students. 

3. Most negotiations could result in teacher's correction of students' utterances that were faulty or in Indonesian. 

4. Teacher as the model of conversation activities firstly initiated the negotiation that was indicated by making repetition check,  for instance: what?,  pardon?,  Say it again please, and clarification request as in: what do you mean?,  what?, or hah? 

5. A specific facial expression was important in meaning negotiation.
