Aquarium WebQuest

Introduction

This activity will help you understand volume in a real world situation.You work in the fish tank business and build fish tanks for people.You will need to find out how much water will go into the tanks and how big the tank needs to be with the fish.

Task

A aquarium has asked you to build 4 different tanks each a different shape. They want you to pick the fish to go into the tank and make it fit into the tank. You need to fill in the tank with water for the fish.

Process
  1. Find 4 types fish that are to fill the tanks 
  2. Find the average size of these fish
  3. Determine how many of each fish you want 
  4. Choose what tank you want each type of fish to be in
  5. Determine the size of tank needed for the tank
  6. Find the volume of each tank
  7. Figure out what water is needed for each type of fish
  8. Fill in the tanks with water then your done

You need to do all of these steps with a budget of 1,000

You only need to buy the fish, the aquarium will provide the tanks you just need to find how big you need it to be

This Webquest will be graded on completion, neatness, explanation, and mathmatical errors.

A 4 would be all questions are completed, neat and organized, explained completely, and no mathmatical errors.

A 3 would be all questions completed, neat and organized for the most part, explained well, and no mathmatical errors.

A 2 would be all questions completed, not very neat, explained some of the problems, and no mathmatical errors.

A 1 would be some questions completed, not very neat, explained nothing, and mathmatical errors.

Conclusion

Volume can be used in many different ways. Many professions require the use of volume especially with building anything. You should gain a understanding of how important volume really is in your "real world" life.

This webquest was made by Jordan Kilmer a student at FPC High School this was a project in Mrs.Cousins Geometry class. This webquest was inspired by the TV show Tanked. I thought it would be really cool if I could build some of the amazing fish tanks they build on the show. So I made a webquest that allowed you to do kind of what they do.
