Introduction
Like many things, cells wear out and die. If an organism is to live and grow it must reproduce. Therefore cell division serves an important role in an organism's health and growth. Cell division occurs rapidly in living organisms. For example, in an adult human, millions of cells divide each second to maintain proper cell balance.

A neat way to remember the steps of Mitosis is = IPMAT---->
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.
You may find during your internet searches different formats, like a Prophase and Pro-Metaphase----Which is correct but in this class we will just group it all under Prophase! :)
Click the link below for a quick video explaining mitosis.
Task

Essential Questions
- Why is the cell cycle an important process?
- How are interphase and mitosis related?
- What happens in a cell during interphase?
- What happens in a cell during mitosis?
Keep these questions in mind while you are going through your quest individually and answer them at the end of your research.
You will be able to match up the pictures of the stages of Mitosis to their respective words.
You will be able to draw and explain in detail each step of Mitosis.
You will be able to understand and complete a reading comprehension passage on Mitosis/Cell Division.
You will be going through multiple websites and exploring the topic of Mitosis using the WORLD WIDE WEB for extra research and clarification.
Check the WebLinks on the Process and Teacher's page to guide you through your Mitosis/Cell Division quest!
Process

- Watch the Review of Cell Reproduction first.
- Watch the Mitosis Quick Vid from the introduction if you need a recap!
- Go to Mitosis/Cell Division and complete the reading activity. When you get a 100% raise your hand and I will check to verify. :)
- Complete the following match-up activity and video. (Mitosis Exploration)
- Now, on a loose sheet of paper or using Google Draw, sketch and label the steps of Mitosis shown in the activity. Make sure to give lots of data Use the video and web resources to guide you.
- Answer the Essential Questions in the "Task" section. Answer in complete sentences to receive credit.*
Evaluation

- You will be graded for three(3) sections.
- Completion of the Reading Activity ( 100%)
- Detailed Sketches/Drawings
- Essential Questions correctly answered ( In complete sentences)
Any questions regarding any part of this activity can be found online. You can use the web sources provided as well as using your own internet search. This is individual work. All work should be turned in at the end of the period. Extensions will be given at the teacher's discretion. Good luck on your quest :)
Conclusion

GREAT JOB! You should have a strong(er) understanding of cell division/mitosis. If you have any questions or are still unclear on certain parts of this topic, please ask a question, come see me after/during class or you could e-mail me the question!
I would also like to know how you liked ( or disliked) this activity! What did you like about the Web Quest? What could make it better? Your feedback is important for making Webquests, more fun and an enjoyable, educational experience!
Write your comments on the back of one of your papers or on a separate sheet please.
