Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Introduction

Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by Mary Shelley and published anonymously in 1818. She was only 20 years old. Nevertheless, it is still one of the most read Gothic novels and it has been adapted to numerous films, theatre plays and TV shows. Her monster has become famous all over the world and it is a recognizable terror character nowadays.

This novel is one of the first Gothic novels, inspired by the Romantic literature movement and it is also considered an early science fiction novel.

Conclusion

“Hateful day when I received life!' I exclaimed in agony. 'Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance. Satan had his companions, fellow-devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and abhorred.' - Frankenstein”
