Introduction
Marble rock is a cool thing to look at and an even cooler thing to recreate. In this lesson students will have fun while recreating the look of a marbleized rock using common house hold items such as, paint, liquid starch, water, and paper!
Task
You will need 6 empty paint bottles, a tub large enough to hold a gallon of liquid starch, a gallon of liquid starch, acrylic paints, any colors you want, weighted paper, and a hair pick (optional).
Pour the starch into the tub and put some paint into the starch, place the paper on top and then... TADA! you have made a marbleized paper.
Process
- Pour the entire gallon of liquid starch into the tub
- In the empty bottles put 2 parts paint and one part water, and shake until fully mixed
- Splash the paint and water mixture onto the starch any way you want to make the style you are looking for
- (optional) use the hair pick to move the paint around to make it the image you have been working for
- Place the weighted paper flat on top of the paint and push down all corners to make sure the paper is covered
- Take paper off and allow to dry
