Introduction

Oh, The Places You'll Go

"You have BRAINS in your HEAD. You have FEET in your SHOES. You can STEER yourself in any DIRECTION your CHOOSE!"

Do you know what you would like to do when you graduate from high school? It seems like it is a long time from now, but it is a good idea to start learning about different places we can go and things we can do when we graduate. This week we will look at what our futures could be. We will learn about college and different careers we could have.

Task

"Oh the places you'll go, today is your day! Your mountain is waiting...so get on your way!"

Objectives:

  • Create a brochure about Aurora University.
  • Learn about a career you would like to have when you graduate.

Students will:

  • Research Aurora Universities mission statement and history.
  • Research a career you would like to have.
  • Develop a brochure that shares the information that you learned.
  • Record your information, through a video, on the Ipad.

Process

Part 1: Virtual Tour

Click on the link provided to take a virtual tour of Aurora University. When you click on the link you will then find the box labeled virtual tour. Click on it and start traveling around the campus. On your packet, make note of the interesting things you see, the places that you visit, and something you found interesting. Remember to put your headphones on, so that the narrator can talk to you!

Part 2: Mission and History

Aurora University has been around for 122 years. It has a very interesting history. Click on the link to answer the questions about Aurora Universities history in your packet.

A mission is a goal that a place has. Click on the link to find Aurora Universities mission statement. Write it in part 2 of your packet.

Part 3: Majors and Minors

When you are in college you will have a major. A major is what you are studying. Ms. Albrecht studied education because she wanted to be a teacher. Click on the link to look at the 40 different majors that Aurora University has. Pick one that you would like to learn more about. Write about that major in your packet. If you already have an idea of what you would like to study in college, Ms. Albrecht can help you find it!

Evaluation

Now that you have finished collecting your information, you will create a brochure to share the information with other students from our school.

On your flash drive you will find the brochure that Ms. Albrecht has saved. Click on it and have it open in a Word document.

In your brochure you will need to have:

  • The mission of Aurora University
  • The history of Aurora University
  • Something interesting from your tour
  • Information about the major your chose
  • A paragraph about why you chose that major.
