Main Idea Webquest

Introduction

Today you and your partner are literary detectives. You've been hired by a client and you're now on the hunt for the often elusive MAIN IDEA.

You're going to read several stories that the client has found for you and work through the main idea-finding steps that you learned in class yesterday. Your client is truly interested in main idea, so make sure to list the steps and the evidence for each step to show how you go about finding main idea!

Task

Assignment: You and your partner are to read and analyze three stories that your client needs to know the main idea of. He is very curious about how you will find the main idea, so he wants you to write down the steps that you follow:

1. What is the topic?

2. What are at least three supporting details?

3. Synthesize the information and tell me what the main idea is!

By the end of this WebQuest, you will turn in a piece of paper with your name on it to your client's assistant (your teacher)

Evaluation

You must be sure to be a good detective and write down the three steps and answer the questions at each step in order for you to get credit. Your client won't be too happy if he can't understand what your process is! You must also write the main idea as a complete sentence. If you are having a problem, please raise your hand and I will come to you!

**After you are finished with all of your tasks, your client has decided to allow you some bonus pay! If you write a summary for each of the articles you have read, you can receive up to 6 bonus points! The summaries must contain the main idea and supporting details and be in your own words. You may write them at the bottom of, or on the back of your paper.

Conclusion

Now that you have finished your assignment, I'm sure that your client has a better understanding of main idea and the process behind finding it! Please, for your client's benefit though, write one thing about today's work that you enjoyed at the bottom of your paper. Your client's assistant also requests that you write down one difficulty that you are having with main idea.

Thank you!
