Introduction

Task

Today you will be exploring who was in Australia first - the Aboringal people.  Following the links on the Process page, you will find all the information you need to complete on the sheets you have been given.

You will go on a journey to find out about

  • The special relationship aboriginal people have with the land
  • The many languages spoken
  • Aborignal family life
  • Dreamtime stories

You will be exploring:

The Special relationship that Aboriginal people have with the land

To begin with:

You will brainstorm everything you can remember on Aboriginal people, culture and histroy.

You will then:

  1. Explore an aboriginal Australia language map and identify the many laguages spoken by different Aboriginal Clans all across Australia. Once you have explored this, you can fill in the languages spoken in our local area on the map of NSW provided.



Process

Think about everything we have learnt so far about Aboriginal people.

Your first mission on this journey is to fill in the mind map you have been given. Try and remember what you have learnt or words you know about Aboriginal People, culture and history.


The speacial relationship with the land

Aboriginal people have a very special connection to their land. They believe that the land owns them and is their mother. They treat their land with respect and care as it provides them with food and water.

Aboriginal Languages

How many languages do you think Aboriginal people spoke? Talk you your partner then read the passage below.

Before 1788 Austraia was inhabited only by Aboriginal people. There were aproximately 574 tribes spread throughout Australia. The average number of people in each tribe was 500.

Each tribe has its own customs, laws and language. Some of te tribes living around the Sydney area included the Eora, Tharawal, Duruk, Wodi Wodi and Gandangara.
