Introduction
Today you will be completing a mini WebQuest.
A WebQuest is an internet scavenger hunt where you will use website links to answer questions.
Today your WebQuest will help you to map your regions of North America and to create a thematic map with a title and a key.
Task
The task for your team has been to take the criterion given to you today:
* Land/Physical - Topography/Terrain - Plains, Mountains
* Land Use/Human - Residential, Recreational
* Climate/Physical - Weather, Temperature
* Cultural/Human - Languages Spoken
* Agriculture/Physical - Cows, Cotton
and use it to divide North America into regions, creating a thematic map with a title and a key.
FIRST and FOREMOST: Don't forget your team "rules" (medallions) and how you plan to share the workload/individual team "jobs" (i.e. one looked it up, one drew the lines, one colored, one will talk, and one will hold the poster).
1) Glue the North American Map given to you by the teacher onto your poster paper.
2) Use the WebQuest sites (found under the Process Tab) to locate your team's region criterion.
3) Divide your North American Map on your poster paper however it should be divided according to your webquests with PENCIL FIRST, then go back and color in the regions however you may like them to look for your thematic map.
4) Make sure to add a title to your thematic map AND a map key.
5) When finished with your thematic map of your team's regional criterion, you will take some notebook paper out and list answers to the following questions so you will have notes when you are teaching the class about your team's thematic map.
* What was your team's regional criterion?
* What does your key tell us?
* Why are your team's regional boundaries drawn where they are on your thematic map?
* What makes each region different from each other on your thematic map?
6) Finally, you will need to decide how you go about teaching your classmates as a team your thematic map, what will be your roles (i.e. will each one share a question and answer, will one person speak, did you base your teaching decisions on how you worked your thematic map work "jobs"- one looked it up, one drew the lines and wrote the words, one colored, one will talk, and one will hold the poster, etc. ?). These are ALL team decisions!!
7) CHECK YOUR RUBRIC BEFORE YOU EVER SAY YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR TEAM PROJECT!!
