Creating My Own Encyclopedia

Introduction

Students will be given different current topics and events in which they will have to investigate to retrive information to create their own encyclopedias.  This assisgnment (notes) will be typed in Microsoft Word and lastly created visually in a Powerpoint Presentation to show to the rest of the class.

Task

At the very end of the project, students will have three items to turn in;

1. A written description of the assignment

2. A typed version of the written description

3.  A PowerPoint Presentation. 

Students will have created their very own fabrication of an encyclopedia with current topics and events that effect their personal lives and interest.  Students will be using the internet for research, Microsoft Word for typing and Microsoft PowerPoint for their final part in the project.

1.) Students will research five topics.  Students will minimize their research down to these targeted areas:

  1. Sports U.S. and or Worldwide famous- options-(basketball, football, soccer, tennis and track/field).
    1. Questions to be answered in project for Sports:
      1. Briefly state the history of the sport. (three to four sentences)
      2. State whether sport is famous in U.S. and/or any other countries and why. (three to four sentences)
      3. Explains whether gender plays an important role in the sport. (Tell in a complete sentence)
      4. Explain what is currently happening in that particular sport today. (2014-2016)
      5. Explain your interest in that sport. (three to four sentences)
  2. U.S. Government
    1. Questions to be answered in project for Civics
      1. Find an current article on the internet about the current election
      2. Summarize this article and write a 15 sentence report about  the article.
  3. Local Government
    1. Reseach the current Rural Retreat police officer resigning.
    2. Summarize this artile in 10 or more sentences. 
  4. Social Change and Events
    1. You have the option to choose one of the following two reseach topics:
      1. Hurricane Matthew and its affects on the States of Florida and North Carolina
      2. Educational Technologyy
  5. A general Topic or Event that interest you.  Topic or event must be suitable for educational purposes.

2.)  After students have done their research on these topics; they will hand write first, a rough draft of information gathered.  The hand written paper may need to be written a number of times to turn in.  This will be graded on no grammatical mistakes or errors and the require materials that are needed. 

3)After the written paper has passed the graded inspection students will be able to typed their final draft.  In this typed final draft students will need to include pictures and graphics to follow topics and events.  Use these search engines.  If students search for information on search engine other than the ones that are listed below make sure those serach engines are unbias and educationally correct.

4)After students have done the written assignment, they will produce a PowerPoint Presentation choosing the three out of five topics or events they have research.  This includes the topics or events that interest them.  Students will not be allowed to read off the PowerPoint.  Students will need to just address key topic or events on slides and elaborate those topics and events on notecards or sheets of paper.  Students can use no more than eight slides.  One introduction slide, two slides for each topics or events and one reference slides at the end.  Students will be graded on graphics, pictures and the Presenation itself.  Hint: (Color, transitions and animations will enhance the presentation and also the grade).  Make sure the PowerPoint Presentation is readable, interesting and fun.

Did not meet the require number of topics and events. With less than a paragraph of information of the topic and event covered.

PowerPoint Presentation

 PowerPoint Presentation was disorganized, short and had many grammatical errors and mistakes.  PowerPoint Presentation did not meet the require slides needed. PowerPoint Presentation did not met the required slides needed.  Pictures, graphics and text was inaccurate   PowerPoint Presentation did met the require slide needed.  Had many few grammatical errors and mistakes.  Graphics, pictures, and text was accurate.  PowerPoint Presentation met the require slides needed.  PowerPoint Presentation was organized.  Graphics, pictures and text was accurate.
