Let's Go On Vacation!!

Introduction

Budgeting is a very important aspect of everyday life; groceries, bills, entertainment, vacation, etc. Creating a budget can be difficult, but also very rewarding! So get ready to put your heads (and math skills) together to plan the ideal Spring Break Get-Away!

Task

You are planning a 3 day vacation for spring break (April 4th-6th) for you and your friend, but your parents are making you pay for a majority of the trip. Your parents are however going to give you $300 for food, emergency and other necessities for you and your friend combined.

  • You and a partner must plan your get-away under a $3,500 budget for that includes Transportation (from St.Louis), housing, and entertainment for both you and your friend. (this does NOT include the $300 from your parents)
  • You may include other aspects of this vacation as long as they stay withing the $1,700 budget.
  • You may choose 1 of 3 locations, Laguna Beach, CA; Clearwater Beach, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC.
  • Research to find hotels, flights (or include gas money), entertainment for the location are you choosing to visit
  • Create a spreadsheet which outlines where all your money is going to
  • Write a conclusion on what the most difficult part of creating the budget was.

Process

A) Choose A Location:

  1. Laguna Beach, California
  2. Clearwater Beach, Florida
  3. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

B) Once you have chosen a location, click these links to find plane tickets; again you may also figure the amount of gas money it would require, if you are willing to drive.

  1. Laguna Beach (1,833.8 miles from St. Louis)

     2. Clearwater Beach (1,032.8 miles from St. Louis)

     3. Myrtle Beach (895.7 miles from St. Louis)

C) Find a hotel at the location you have chosen:

D) Plan 2 activities that you and your partner could do (These do not have to cost money, but you must clarify that in the spreadsheet)
