LET’S FIND OUT WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT TV GENRES!

Introduction

Watching television is something that is very common among us and our students, this webquest is going to show students more about the TV series that they know.

The duration of this webquest is 2 sessions of 60 minutes each and it is part of sessions 4 and 5 within a didactic unit of 8 sessions, on the topic “Technological world”. In both sessions students will be able to find out more about TV series and their genre through the use of pre-tasks and a general project that they will have to do in pairs. Some pictures will be used as visual support, to familiarize them with the topic.

The main aim of the webquest is to introduce them to the topic so as to ask them to create a project in pairs (collaborative work is very important in this webquest).

Students will be placed in pairs so as to work collaboratively in both sessions and they will work in the computer room so as to have enough computers for all.

Television is a telecommunication medium used for transmitting moving images in black and white, in color and in two or three dimensions and sound. Television was invented in the 1920s but the equipment was expensive and the pictures were poor. By the 1950s, these problems were fixed and TV became widespread.

A television show, often simply TV show, is any content produced fot broadcast via over-the-air, satellite, cable or internet and tipically viewed on a television set, excluding breaking news, advertisements or trailers that are typically placed between shows. TV shows are most often scheduled well ahead of time and appear on electronic guides or other TV listings

A TV series is usually released in episodes that follow a narrative, and are usually divided into seasons. A show with a limited number of episodes may be called miniseries or limited series. A one-time show may be called a "special".

Television shows can be viewed as they are broadcast in real time (live), be recorded on home video or a digital video recorder for later viewing, or be streamed over the internet (Netflix, HBO...)

Think about any TV series you know...Would you be able to place the genre in a particular TV genre?
