Let's express our emotions with colors

Introduction

This class is an English class where elementary school students develop their self-expression by connecting colors and emotions. Consisting of a total of five sessions, the class explores the relationship between colors and emotions by utilizing the characters of the animation Inside Out, and provides opportunities for students to express themselves naturally in English through various activities. In particular, this class focuses on stimulating the learner's affective domain to deepen their understanding of emotions and develop cognitive domain and language competence in an integrated manner. In addition, students will experience the process of visualizing emotions into colors through creative thinking.

In the first session, you will learn various English vocabulary about colors. In the second session, you will learn English vocabulary about emotions and learn how to express your feelings. In the third session, you will explore how colors and emotions are connected. In the fourth session, you will learn what colors mean in your daily life. In the last session, you will use AI tools to create your own emotional characters. This class will help students to mature their emotions, develop their self-expression skills through colors and emotions, and provide educational opportunities to experience English learning and emotional education in an integrated way. This class, which combines effective learning and cognitive learning, will evenly promote students' verbal, emotional, and creative development.

Task

- Creating your own emotional character using AI

Students must use AI tools to design characters that express certain emotions. During the character design process, they must consider how each emotion is visually expressed and express this through color and the character's design elements.

This should include what emotions you chose, what colors you used to convey each emotion and why, and what design elements (facial expressions, posture, props, etc.) you used to further emphasize the emotion.

Process

Task 1. Learning about Color

"What colors fill our surroundings?"

Everyone, close your eyes and imagine for a moment. What if there were no colors in the world? What if everything was just black and white? Wouldn't it be boring if all the toys we love, the sky, and the flowers were all the same color?

But luckily, our surroundings are filled with so many different colors! Green trees, blue skies, yellow sunflowers, and all the colorful things you love! Colors bring us joy and make things more special.

Today, we are going to learn about the various colors around us and see where each color is used. What’s your favorite color? And where do you see that color most often? After this lesson, you’ll be able to notice your surroundings more carefully. Are you ready? Let’s dive into the world of colors!

Task 2. Learning about emotions

How are you feeling right now? Are you happy, sad, angry, or maybe a little nervous?

There are so many different emotions hiding inside us, just like many colors.

If we can understand and express these different emotions inside us, we can build better friendships and solve difficult problems more easily.

Today, we are going to explore the various emotions in our hearts and learn how to express them.

Are you ready? Then let's go on a journey into our hearts!

Task 3. What color is your emotion?

"What color is your emotion?"

Everyone, have you ever thought about how colors affect our mood? Actually, color is very deeply related to how we feel. There are many different colors such as red, blue, yellow, and green in the world, and these colors are not just pretty, they can change our mood and express our emotions.

For example, let's think of yellow? Yellow is a bright, shining color like the sun. So when we see yellow, we can feel happy and energetic. Just as you feel good when you run around in the sun, yellow is a color that represents joy.

These colors mean more than just what we see. Let's see what colors remind us of what emotions.

Lesson Goal: Let's understand the relationship between emotion and color and express it in English.

[Activity1] Let's think about how you feel when you see the color.

[Activity2] Let's think about why emotions in the movie Inside Out were expressed in that color.

Task 4. Meanings of Colors in Everyday Life

Let’s think about the traffic light we saw on our way to school this morning. When we see the red light, we stop, and when we see the green light, we cross the street. What do the red and green colors mean to us? Today, we will take some time to find different colors in places and things around us and understand what those colors mean. Let’s also think about how colors can change our feelings and actions. Are you ready to find the meanings of colors in our lives?

Lesson Goal: Let’s find colors in our lives, and learn what those colors mean.

[Activity1-1] Let's talk about examples of colors used in real life and the feelings they give us.

[Activity1-2] Understanding the Meaning of Colors.

[Activity2] Let's find colors in everyday life and think about their meanings.

Task 5. Creating your own emotional character using AI  (AI를 활용해 자신만의 감정 캐릭터 만들기)

This time, we will use AI to make your emotions into characters. Let's think about the emotions you're feeling and think about how you can express them in form. Happy emotions are bright and colorful, sad emotions are dark, angry emotions are like fire, and tense emotions can be expressed with sharp lines, right?

Next, AI creates unique characters based on the emotions you explained and the characteristics that match them.  And through this character, you can understand your emotions better and share them with others. Don't you want to create your own emotional character? Now, let's go on a journey in our hearts and create your own emotional characters?
