Let's Explore Animals and Their Homes!

Introduction

In this WebQuest, students will explore different animals and the homes where they live, such as nests, caves, ponds, and trees. The guiding questions are: Where do animals live? Why do they need homes? How do homes help animals stay safe and healthy? This lesson aligns with Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards by helping children observe the natural world, build vocabulary, and develop early science understanding. Students will practice skills related to Bloom’s Taxonomy by remembering animal names, understanding habitats, and applying knowledge by matching animals to their homes.

Task

Students will work in small groups to create a simple Animal Homes Poster (or digital collage with teacher help) showing at least three animals and where they live. Each group will present their poster and explain which animal lives in which home using pictures and simple sentences.

Process

Step 1: Watch short animal habitat videos together as a class

Step 2: Read a short picture book or online story about animals and homes

Step 3: Group Roles:

  • Animal Picker – chooses animals

  • Home Finder – matches animals to homes

  • Artist – colors or glues pictures

  • Speaker – helps share the group’s work

Step 4: Create the poster using printed pictures, crayons, or digital images

Step 5: Share posters with the class
