Lesson on the USA’s States and capitals for a geography class

Introduction

Florida State Standard for 2nd Grade Geography. SS.2.G.1.1 

Learning Objective(s): Students will be able to label different countries, as well as a state, local hometowns, and capitals. (SS.2.G.1.2)

Students will be able to use different maps to identify map elements. (SS.2.G.1.1)

Students will be able to name and locate the different continents, oceans, Equator, North, and South Pole. (SS.2.G.1.3) 

Guiding Questions: 

“Which State borders X state?” “Which state has the capital X?” “Which states are the west states?” “Which states are in the south” “Which continent is the United States on?” “What is the name of the sea that is west of California?” 

 

 

 

Task

You guys are going to work on a twenty-two slide PowerPoint which will cover the different continents, countries, maps, and even states and capitals in order for you guys to do research on what they look like and where they are located on a map. This project will need us to divide into groups of 4 students. 

Process

For this project I want you to create a group of 4 students. Your group will create a total of 18 slide PowerPoint (4 slides a person).

One slide for your introduction, which must include everyone’s names and which slide #’s that they handled. Last slide is for references and links. The rest of the 16 slides will be split up into 4 sections. Read the following.  

SECTION ONE, USA STATE’s and CAPITOLS.

  4 slides will be on  different states and their capitols (include pictures and maps).

SECTION TWO, CONTINENTS. 4 slides will be on different continents and what countries are in those continents (Must include pictures).

SECTION THREE, MAPS AND ELEMENTS. 4 slides must be on different types of maps and the different elements of a map.

SECTION FOUR, COUNTRIES.

4 slides must be on different countries and their capitals.

At least 15 pictures or diagrams or maps.

Total is 18 slides.

Evaluation

Content-

(1)- Content is inaccurate and content is not presented with a logical flow or is difficult to follow. 

(2)- Content is slightly accurate but is not presented with a logical flow or is difficult to follow. 

(3)- Content is accurate but is not presented with a logical flow or is difficulty to follow 

(4) - Content is accurate and is presented with a logical flow, some parts are difficult to follow but the topic is presented. 

(5)- Content is accurate and is presented with a logical flow and all parts are easy to follow and understand. 

Organization - 

(1) - Presentation is unorganized, utilizes no tools, insufficient number of slides, and is not following rules. 

(2) Presentation is slightly unorganized, uses some to none tools, insufficient number of slides. 

(3) Presentation has some organizational flow but does not include all slide numbers or tools. 

(4) Presentation is well organized and has sufficient slide numbers but does not go above and beyond. 

(5) Presentation is well organized and has sufficient slide numbers and uses creative tools. 

Pictures - 

(1) - Uses no pictures or diagrams. 

(2)- Uses very little pictures, cluttered. ( less than 5)

(3)- Uses 5-10 pictures.

(4)- Uses 10-14 pictures. 

(5)- Uses 15 pictures. 

Grammar-

(1) - Excessive errors in sentences, structure, and word spelling. 

(2)- Many errors in sentences, structure, and word spelling.  

(3)- Many to little errors in sentences, structure, and word spelling. 

(4)- Little to no errors in sentences, structure, and word spelling. 

(5)- Very minor errors or no errors in sentences, structure, and word spelling.   

 

Conclusion

All in all be sure to be concise, use visuals, maps, pictures, and organize your thought and facts effectively.
