Memory

Introduction

Memory is an electronic component that provides a temporary holding area for instructions waiting to be executed and data needed by those instructions. There are two main types of memory:

  • Volatile
  • Non-Volatile

At the end of this webqeust students will be more knowlegeable of memory. Students will become more aware of different types of volatile and non-volatile memory that is used in the computer.

There are two main type of memory: Volatile and Non-Volatile

Volatile Memory

Volatile memory loses its contents when a computer's power is turned off. Examples of Volatile Memory are:

RAM (SRAM, DRAM, MRAM)

CACHE

CMOS

Non-Volatile Memory

Non-Volatile memory does not lose its content whenever the Computer's power is turned off. Examples of Non-Volatile Memory are:

ROM

PROM

EPROM

EEPROM
