Introduction
Have you ever thought about going to college? Does 4 years seem like a long time to be in school before you get to start working at your career? Lee County has public technical colleges right in your very own backyard with a slogan of "Career in a Year". This webquest is designed to help you explore all that the Lee County Technical Colleges have to offer!
Task
Instruction:
Students will explore career options as well as watch videos and and navigate through the Lee County Technical Colleges websites to learn about the programs offered to them.
Process
Step 1: Complete this career interest survey https://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip. Click on your top 3 results to explore what each profile means. Select/List your top 3 areas of interest.
Step 2: Explore the careers listed for you in Job Zone 1 and Job Zone 2. What are you top 3 careers in both zones?
Step 3: Watch these two videos: Are there any programs that caught your attention?

Step 4: Log onto Fort Myers Technical College's website and Cape Coral Technical College's website and answer the following questions:
1. Which campus, if any, have a career path that lined up with your career interest survey results?
2. What are the admission requirements of either campus?
3. As a high school student with a standard diploma, do you need to take the entrance exam? If so, what do you need to score on it?
4. Do the tech colleges work with Federal Financial Aid? List 3 other sources of financial assistance
5. Do the tech colleges offer dual enrollment? If so, what are two benefits of dual enrollment?
Step 5: Select one program of interest from either of the tech colleges and research the average starting wage for the program you selected, in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. How much do you plan to earn?
Step 6: Search two other colleges in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area for your select program from step 6. How much does it cost to attend that program? How long does that program take? Is that school/program accredited?
Step 7 Write a 3-5 paragraph essay on your top career path that would be attainable through a Lee County Technical College. How would you benefit from the program? After completing your training where would your ideal job in Lee County come from? How much money would you expect to make (per hour) once you have completed your program?
Evaluation
Answers must be written in complete sentences: 10pts
Essay: 15pts
Total: 25pts
*Bonus-Stop by the Lee County Technical College table at lunch/College fair and get a signed catalog to earn 5 extra points
Conclusion
Although it is not time for you to go to college, at least now you have an idea of what you might want to do when it is time. Your research has helped you to see what options are out there for your future that can be right in your own backyard.
