Introduction
Hello/Hola/Hafa Adai! :) Welcome to a virtual journey where we will explore the wonderful world of shapes! Learning shapes not only helps children identify and organize visual information, but it also helps them learn skills in other curriculum areas including reading, math, and science. Did you know that an early step in understanding numbers and letters is to recognize their shape?
In this WebQuest, students will put on their thinking caps as they learn about, recognize, name attributes, and sort two & three dimensional shapes using certain attributes. By gaining this knowledge, students will be more aware of the shapes we see in our everyday lives.
Come learn with us!! Click on the photo links below to see the shapes we will be covering...

Task
Tasks for the children to complete...
1. The students will click on the song videos that follow to learn about, identify and name attributes of the basic 2D & 3D shapes.
2. Then, the students will click on the link below to play a game that challenges them to recognize 2D & 3D shapes. They will sort/match them based on their attributes.

3. Lastly, each child will click on the links that follow to test their knowledge on the shapes they learned.

Process
The Process is as follows...
Step One - Students should click on the media links in the task section to learn songs about 2d and 3d shapes. Have a parent, teacher or a friend learn the different shapes with you! It's fun to sing and dance along with Mr. Hartmann.
Step Two - To help the students gain a better understanding and be able to recognize the different 2d and 3d shapes around us, each student will play the interactive game linked in the task section. They will sort/match the shapes based on their attributes.
Step Three - Each student should go to the 2D and 3D Quiz & Game links in the task section to test their knowledge about the shapes they learned. The interactive quiz & game asks students to guess or choose the correct shapes.
The total estimated time to complete the tasks in this WebQuest is approximately 15-20 minutes, depending on the amount of discussion and understanding that is involved between the adult & child during each task.

Conclusion
Wow! Excellent job! It has been an exciting virtual adventure learning about all the different 2D and 3D shapes. Unfortunately, it has to come to an end. All of the students had a blast knowing that everything in the world is some kind of a shape. As a reminder, learning shapes not only helps us identify and organize visual information, but it also helps us learn skills in other curriculum areas including reading, math, and science. And an early step for children in understanding numbers and letters is to recognize their shapes.
So, if a student is still struggling with learning the shapes, here are some review videos on 2D and 3D shapes that may help...
