What is a Synonym?
A synonym is a word that has the same or almost the same meaning as another word.
The word is derived from Greek and means "identical name."
Many synonyms exist for the same word. "Dark" has many synonyms, including "drab," "ebony," "murky," "dull," and "shady."
Choose vibrant synonyms for the words in your sentences to make your writing far more engaging.
Rather from saying "His hair was dark," you may say "His hair was inky."
Why are Synonyms important?
Repeating the same words over and over in writing, especially creative writing, can make it boring or uninteresting.
Replacing a word with an equivalent, possibly even a more specific one, can help you communicate your ideas more effectively.
Synonyms can also assist you make your writing more vivid and generate an exciting image in the reader's imagination.
