The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Task

A brief overview of what you will be completing daily with this quest. You will start the quest by completing a profile about KAte DiCamillo and expressing your thoughts about the author. Please follow the tasks and complete the reading on a nightly basis.

Process

Day 1 Obtain a folder from Mrs. Delon, this will include all of the documents that you need to complete this webquest.

Day 1 You must search the author using this site :http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/contributor/kate-dicamillo use the information found on this site to answer the questions in the folder. Be sure to use all parts of the site, including the interview.

Day 2 Go back and review Chapters 1 and 2 complete the character trait organizer and be sure to include evidence from the text that enabled you to choose the traits. Put in sequencial order the steps that Abilene used to prepare herself for school every morning and be sure to expalin what Edward did while she prepared herself. Read chapters 3-5

Day 3 In these chapters we learn that Edward loved looking at the stars. Find a website that tells about constellations. Describe and illustrate 3 constellations that you found interesting. Be sure to include their origin and name. Next, create a constellation of your own, name it and tell where it got its origin.

Day 4 Read chapters 6-8

Day 5 In chapters 6-8 we learn that Edward was on board a ship called, The Queen Mary". Go to this site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4lteXhQNs4 watch the video and find the worksheet with questions in the folder. Using the video answer the questions to the best of yoru ability. Be sure to have a notepad or the questions while viewing!

Day 6 What happened to Edward on the 297th day on the ocean floor. Who found Edward and was he given a new name? Write a journal entry as if you are Edward describing his experience.

Day 7 Read chapters 9-11 In these chapters we learn that Nellie made some new outfits for Edward. Go to this site: http://resources.woodlands-junio.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/costume.html Describe the customary costumes for the UK explain if you think these outfits depict the same outfit or type of outfit that Nellie made for Edward. Would you wear this attire? Why or why not?

Day 8 Read chapters 12-18

Day 9 As we learn more about Edward, we realize that he has some issues.  Go to this website http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/thought/talk_feelings.html and read about what you should do if you are feeling sad or depressed. Does Edward exhibit any of these feelings? IF so, what advice would you give him.

Day 10 In chapters 17-18 we are introduced to two new characters, Bryce and Sarah Ruth. What role do they play in Edward life? Use information from these chapters to write a character skectch of these two characters. Read chapters 19-23

Day 11 In chapters 19-23 What happened to Edward in the beginning of Chapter 22 Bryce could not pay to have Edward fixed. what were his options? Read the following article on this site: http://home.howstuffworks.com/howtorepair-kitchen-equipment2.html is this how Edward was repaired? Does this seem difficult or easy? Expalin.

Day 12 Read chapters 24-25 Edward did not care for the other dolls in the shop, he called them words like annoying, self-centered, twittery, and vain. Why is this ironic? Define each of these words on the definition page in the packet. You may use www.dictionary.com for this or a regular dictionary.

Day 13 Read chapters 26-27

Day 14  You did it! Complete the quiz in the folder. Then design a book cover illustrating your most favorite part in the book. Please include a summary of the text and a book review written in your own words.

Evaluation

Use the rubric in the folder to evaluate your project. Turn your self assessment in to me, by the end of today!
