Introduction
Hey boys and girls. Its time for Science! Today you will be exploring the layers of the soil.
Here is a poem to get you started!!!
The Layers Below
The topsoil, rich with life and care,
A fertile bed for plants to share.
Beneath it lies the subsoil deep,
With minerals and roots that creep.
And further down, the bedrock lies,
A solid base where strength defies.
Though hidden far beneath our feet,
These layers make the Earth complete.

Remember Science is easy and Science is FUN!
Task
Soil Profile Project
You will create a model of the layers of the soil using different soil types.
Model MUST:
- have three layers topsoil, subsoil and bedrock
- reflect real and visible soil types/rocks
- be labelled to reflect the various layers of soil and what makes up each soil type
- have a long shelf-life so it can be stored in the classroom for reinforcement
Process
This task requires you to work together in groups of four that were created in Science class last week Thursday. Remember, working in a group can be fun, but it is also be a challenge. You must respect your group members' ideas, be a great listener, cooperate, and ask questions if you need help. It is your responsibility to work as a team and explore the soil profile and how you can make a model of it.
Step 1: Watch the YouTube video and explore how to make a model of the soil profile
Step 2:
- research additional information to ensure that you are on the right track

- read the information on the website carefully
Step 3: In your groups divide the task below among members:
- collect resources for the model
- designate someone to scribe or label the model
- carry out the task
- submit by December 10, 2024

Grading
Read the rubric as a group to see how you will be graded. You can grade yourself before taking your projects to me. Project is marked out of 15 marks
