Passive Voice

Introduction

Hi everyone!

This WebQuest will help us learn how to use Passive Voice

Let's have a closer look at the comic.

Is there a difference between these two sentences? Disscuss with a partner.

1) The Passive voice will be used by me.

2) I will use the Passive voice.

Function - Why do we use Passive Voice?

Passive Voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not therefore importat to know who permored the action.

A good example is: My bike was stolen.

The fact that my bike was stolen is the most important part. In this case we will probably do not know whi stole it.

Advantages: Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice:

A mistake was made.

Way more polite than saying: You made a mistake.

Also to avoid taking resposability for the action (in order to avoid saying I was the one who made the mistake)
