La Quinceañera

Introduction

What Is a Quinceañera and How Is It Celebrated?

The Quinceañera is a very important celebration in the life of a Hispanic girl.  There are two parts to the celebration; it is both a religious and social event that emphasizes the importance of family and society in the life of the girl turning 15.  It is similar to a wedding in the United States and it celebrates the young girl (la Quinceañera), and recognizes her journey from childhood to maturity (adulthood).  The celebration beings with a religious ceremony (mass) and continues with a receptions to honor the Quince.  The festivities include food and music, as well as the changing of shoes, a father-daughter dance, and a choreographed waltz or dance performed by the Quince and her Court.   It's a very fun celebration for all of those involved and it's a day to remember for the Quince!  Let's make your Quince the talk of the TOWN and a day no one will ever forget and win the grand prize beach vacation!

Task

In order to have the best chance to have your Quinceañera chosen as the best and to win a grand prize vacation, you need to place a detailed Quinceañera party.  Your party planning should include a detailed itinerary for 100 guests within a $10,000 budget.  You must be sure to include everything your Quince is asking for to make her day complete.  You will need to create your invitations, book a venue complete with food and drinks, create or order decorations, make or buy a capía (take home gift), book the photographer/videographer, book the DJ and help her shop for a dress and jewelry, shoes and a tiara.  Each team member must have equal input in the details for the event and it's important to create a spreadsheet to log the amount of money spent on each aspect of this special day.

Process

It is important for your group to keep a collaborate log of every step in the process being used below.  The log should include dates in which each group member completed a task (both in school and at home), the amount of time you spend working each day, and the task you completed each day.  Additionally, each group member's jobs and responsibilities should be logged.  In order to keep your log consistent and ensure they don't get misplaced, all of the information must be put into the online Google Doc; this will allow you to track your progress as well as your members process throughout the assignment.

1. Brainstorm ideas for your Quinceañera

*You need to make sure that you don't leave any detail out for the Quinceañera.  You will need to think about every detail from a dress shop to the venue to the photographer/videographer and transportation to the event.  You and your group should make a list of place the call and decide who will research which topic.

2. Research your prices to get the best "bang for your buck!"

*Research your venues and options to plan the perfect event.  You will need to make phone calls and complete online research in order get the the best, more price efficient deal while still creating the perfect day for your Quince.  You and your group need to create a spreadsheet to track the places you call and the prices you get.

-What are the events to the Quinceañera that need to be included?

-What type of dress and jewelry are you looking for?

-What music will you dance to? Choreographed waltz and father-daughter dance?

-How much do you want to spend on each aspect of the event to stay within budget?

-What type of food are you going to serve?

-What theme are you following?

-Where's the best place to get decorations - can you make your own decorations to save money?

3. Develop your supply list.

*Create a supply list to create the prefect Quinceañera.  Make sure you don't leave our any details and make sure to include all the prices of your items on the spreadsheet.  It is important to stay within your budget.

4. Plan your day!

*After analyzing your data and information collected about the details of your Quinceañera, you now need to plan the day using a Google Slide presentation.  You will need to create an itinerary of events from your Quince getting her hair/make up done to all the details of the church ceremony and receptions.  Additionally, you should create your decorations, invitations and find pictures of all of your items needed for your day.  You should create a slideshow presentation to tell us exactly how your day will unfold so we know what to expect when we arrive at your fiesta.  Be sure to include your Quince's attire, a list of events, details of the events (times), a menu, songs for the choreographed waltz and father-daughter dance and all of your decorations!

Conclusion

Excellent job planning your event - we can't wait to be a part of this special celebration.  It was a difficult and time-consuming task to plan this event within the budget, but you DID IT!  You did an excellent job calling local places and deciding on the various aspects of the event. You did a great job identifying the potential obstacles and thought of ways to avoid disaster as well as overcome them.  You planned very specific details for your event and chose your items and cost wisely.  If you enjoyed this activity, you might also be interested in learning about and planning other Hispanic fiestas.
