Introduction
Hi Students and Parents,
During this lesson we are going to identify 10 different countries, their global location, and their flags. We will go a little more in depth with where the Olympics originated and the fun historical facts about the Olympics. This is a fun a way to get to broaden our geography, social studies skills as well as learn some history of our planet's countries.
Task
Identify a list of ten countries:
1)United States of America
2)Canada (North America)
3)Mexico (North America)
4)Russia (Europe)
5)Norway (Europe)
6)Germany(Europe)
7)Japan (Asia)
8)Greece (Europe)
9)China (Asia)
10)England (Europe)
Identify their global location and Which continent they are associated with. Then have the ability to identify the nations flag and pin it to the appropriate location.
Process
Each student receives:
- A comprised list of the chosen nations
- A colored flag of each nation
- A brief history of ancient Greece and Olympics origin
- a sheet of poster board and markers
Lesson
- Break class into 10 groups and assign each group a nation. Then allow each group to create their country's flag.
Inform groups they are all delegates from their country and they have to introduce themselves to the Olympic comity and explain when the Olympics should be held in their country. The groups will preform their presentations Certainly teams will need time in the Library, at the computer, in a arts a crafts center, and on the play ground to finalized research and prepare their presentations.
