Bullying: How to Survive!

Introduction

Have you ever been the victim of bullying? Have you ever known someone who was the victim of bullying? Have you ever been afraid to come to school because of a bully? If so, you are not alone! According to www.bullyingstatistics.org, 77% of students have been the victim of some type of bullying.

A bully is a person who purposely tries to hurt others. This can be done by spreading rumors, excluding others, making a person feel uncomfortable, name-calling, physically hurting others, etc. A bully hurts others over and over again.

Bullying can lead to despression, low self-esteem, and even suicide. "Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims." - www.bullyingstatistics.org

Often, the person being bullied feels that there is nothing they can do to stop it! They often don't realize the help there is out there. Sometimes they feel like no one will listen or be able to help or that telling someone will make the situation worse.

Teachers, parents, and kids must all join together to work toward stopping bullying!

Task

Your job, as a group, will be to research bullying and create a "Survival Guide" to help others.

You will:

1. Research different aspects of bullying from the perspective of a student, parent, or teacher (you will be assigned one of the three).

2. Complete a worksheet to show the findings of your research. You will find your group's worksheet under "Process."

3. Select information, as a team, that you feel is the most important and should be included in the "Survival Guide."

4. Create a list of information to be included in the "Survival Guide."

5. You will create a "Survival Guide" as a group.
