Introduction

Hello America!

Today we are learning about kids and why they act the way they do.

We will go from parental controls to peer pressure.

It sort of depends on the kid but the environment they try to be in is the main problem.

Task

Today we will ask you three starter questions. (Do not look these up)

  1. What are the kinds of peer pressure?
  2. Why do some kids not speak out in harsh conditions?
  3. Do some kids have particular problems because of their parents?
Process

At a basic level, children usually act out when they have unfulfilled wants, desire attention, or don't want to do something. Although negative behavior usually results in some attention, it's usually not the kind of attention the child or the adult wants to give.

There is clear evidence that parents can and do influence children. There is equally clear evidence that children's genetic makeup affects their behavioral characteristics, and also influences the way they are treated by their parents.

Disrespectful behavior often comes down to kids having poor problem-solving skills and a lack of knowledge about being more respectful as they pull away. Often when kids separate from you they do it all wrong before they learn how to do it right.

Some kids give in to peer pressure because they want to be liked or they think it helps them fit in. Some worry that other kids might tease them if they don't go along with the group. Others go along because they are curious. Maybe they want to try something that others are doing.

The causes of peer pressure include the need to fit in, low self-esteem, fear of rejection, and at the most time the need to feel safety and security from peers. The effects of peer pressure can be negative and also have the worst outcomes. Peer pressure is most commonly found in the ages of 12-19 years old.
