Introduction

Introduction:

           Through this WebQuest you will learn about the three different time periods throughout the age of Latin literature. We will be able to discuss what culture the Romans modeled in order to create their own literature. From optimisim and patriotism, to pessimism and lack of inspiration to see the good in life, the literature of Rome contains all these and much more inbetween. Expanding your horizons will enable you to learn about new things from different civilzations. This is particular will get you a glimpse of the language that has been the root of many European countries today.

Task

Task:

          Your task for this assignment will be to read about the Latin literature from the passages given in the procces tab. After you have done this you will write a minimum 1 page essay about these key factor of Roman literature. You will have to include this information in your essay: what other civilization did the Romans use to model their own literary pieces after? What were the differences and similarities between the two types of literature based on the answer to the previous question? What were the three ages of Roman literature called? Also give a brief discription of each age and the major poets/writers. Finally give your opionion on what the most interests you most about this specific type of literature after you have researched.

Conclusion:

After doing all this you should have learned a couple of new things about Latin literature. First of all you learned that Roman literature is heavily based of Greek writing and of different Greek beliefs. You also should have learned that in the Golden Age Augustan was one of the main reason that people wrote aboout such happy times. They wrote it because while he reigned these was peace in the empire. After Augustan and Ovid died the land did not seem as happy and lively. You have learned that the Roman language has influenced many other European to become the way they are now.
