Rationale:

This WebQuest produces a challenging task for Year 9 students to apply their research knowledge towards a task. The task is formulated to help students in completing their assessment and will be run over 2-3 lessons. The topic chosen for the WebQuest is from the Australian Curriculum; Plan, implement and critique strategies to enhance healthsafety and wellbeing of their communities (ACPPS096).

The WebQuest is used as a tool to allow students to research, analyse and evaluate issues from the nutritional realm. It allows for students to contribute to inquiry-based learning to further enhance their ICT ability and research skills. The Webquest allows students to formulate important questions and make predictions in the beginning of this task. The task allows students to guide their own learning while the educator facilitates. It is important for the students to gather, collect and research the data from appropriate sources.

According to Queensland Studies Authority, inquiry-based learning emphasises an approach that is presented in four phases. The phases include; understanding, planning, acting and reflecting, which is evident in this WebQuest task. Students are required to understand the topic or issue at hand and then further gather information on the topic. This is the approach of this WebQuest, the task requires the students to firstly, understand the topic, then research and gather information and data surrounding the topic. Students will then need to use planning skills to establish what they need for the assessment task. The WebQuest has been created to allow students ample planning time and resources to contribute to their learning. Students are then required to act on their understanding and knowledge involving the topic, this will then lead to the PowerPoint presentation. In the conclusion of the WebQuest, students are required to reflect on the information they have gathered and presented, which is the fourth phase of inquiry-based learning. This WebQuest task overall allows for an important learning tool for students and is directly linked to the Australian Curriculum.
