Process
Part I
Day 1
DO NOW
1) Skim and scan the article, 10 Jobs That Didn't Exist 10 Years Ago or view the video Top 10 Jobs That Didn't Exist 10 Years Ago.
2) Respond to the discussion topic, "Specify a job from the article that you think some of your students may be interested in pursuing. What skills would they need to possess to be successful at this job?"
Today's Big Idea: Understanding Technology's Role in the Common Core and Danielson Framework
1) As a whole group, watch the video, 21st Century Skills in Action. Be ready to discuss:
- Why are these skills necessary for today's students to be College and Career ready?
2) Click on the link to take you to Common Core Standards, The Common Core Classroom. Select "Edit" and "Find" type in the term "Technology" then click "Done" to quickly see where technology is addressed in the standards for Grades K-5. Be ready to discuss the following:
- At what grade is technology required to be used by students?
- How is technology expected to be used from that grade on?
- Who is responsible for teaching this standard?
- What foundations need to be set to help prepare students to be successful at this standard?
- Who should be laying this foundation?
3) Conduct a similar search of the Danielson Rubric using the following link, The Charlotte Danielson Framework For Teaching. Be ready to discuss the following:
- How are you evaluated on the use of technology?
Day 2
Today's Big Idea: Exploring ways to use technology to plan and deliver instruction
1) Go to the FREE website TypingWeb Portal and login using username: witter(last name) password: last name. Select "courses." Practice the homeroom keys. Explore the tabs at the top. Be ready to discuss:
- How/when could we integrate a program like this? What would be the benefit of having students practice using TypingPortal?
2) Watch Inside the Active College Classroom video. In what ways can the idea of a "Concept Laboratory" be woven into your day?
3) Watch the tutorial on Twiddla. Think about HOW MANY WAYS you could use this in your classroom during a lesson.
4) Go to my Twiddla meeting. Be ready to participate in our meeting! *Note: To save a Twiddla meeting, you will have to create a FREE 30 Day Trial.*
5) Check out ClassroomFirst Calendar Planning or Google Apps for Educators: Lesson Plans That Integrate Technology for ideas on how to tie in technology and current events to your instruction. These websites have thousands of educator-reviewed web resources, searchable by subject/grade or keyword. You can also find lesson plans/units, ready-to-go content you can share on student computers, a projector, or interactive whiteboard, and special topic collections of web resources!! Be ready to share with the group:
- What is one lesson that interests you? How is technology used to enhance this lesson?
6) Be ready to respond to the following discussion topic in OpenIdeas: What was a resource that you looked at today that you would like to use in your class? How do you see yourself using it?
Day 3
Today's Big Idea: Exploring ways to use technology to deliver and assess instruction
1) Watch the video The Flipped Classroom as a whole group. Be ready to discuss:
- How would this benefit our students?
2) Watch the news broadcast on the Flipped Classroom in Action. Be ready to discuss:
- How can I see this working in my classroom? What would be a lesson I know my students could use more direct instruction?
3) Follow the link Intergrating Technology Padlet Classroom for the program Padlet that was used in the Flipped Classroom in Action video. Double click on the wall, type your name, hit enter and respond to the question posed.
4) When you are done, create your own FREE login for Padlet
5) Watch the tutorial for how to create a Padlet Classroom
6) Create your own Padlet and post the link to OpenIdeas. Comment on a friend's Padlet Classroom!
7) All done? Complete your reflection and turn it in!
