Joan Didion

Introduction

Joan Didion was born in Sacramento, California in 1934 and grew up to be an introverted nerd as a child, Didion then spent her early adulthood writing stories that helped her develop her skills, which would then lead her to attend the University of California, Berkeley. Didion decided to enter an essay competition and won herself a job at Vogue Magazine. She successfully graduated with a degree in English but she had a job waiting for her. During these times Didion accomplished to publish her first novel in 1963 ‘Run River’ and wrote for other magazines.

Evaluation

Joan Didion’s writing has gone on to earn her various awards in the writing community from her articles, novels, and even plays that made it to broadway. Even in 2012, President Barack Obama gave the author National Humanities Medal. Amongst many readers and writers, Joan’s form of writing is considered new journalism. And according to TaughtCo “Over time, she would become known for her observations of distinctly American events, ranging from the Manson murders to the increasingly bitter national politics of the late 1980s to the scandals of Bill Clinton.”
