POLYNOMIALS

Introduction

Welcome students!

You will be completing this webquest to get a basic understanding of what polynomials are and how to add/subtract/multiply/and divide them.

We use polynomials all the time in math and in real life. . .educate yourself on some of the uses for polynomials!

To begin learning click on "Task" in the navigation bar.

Task

What will you accomplish?

By the end of the webquest you should know:

  • What a polynomial expression looks like
  • What a polynomial graph looks like
  • How to determine the degree of a polynomial
  • How to add/subtract polynomials
  • How to multiply polynomials
  • How to divide polynomials

When you are ready to educate yourself on polynomials click "Process" in the navigation bar.

Process

Make sure you take notes about polynomials as you go - I will not be going over this information in class!

You will be visiting several websites which have practice embedded so you can check yourself along the way.

Go to Mathisfun - Polynomials (click the link) and read all about polynomials!

  • Take notes as you go!
  • Try the pracitce problems at the bottom of the website to test yourself.

Go to Mathisfun - Adding/Subtracting Polynomials (click the link) to learn about adding/subtracting polynomials.

  • Watch the animations!
  • Take notes as you go!
  • Try the practice problems at the bottom of the website to test yourself.

Go to Mathisfun - Multiplying Polynomials (click the link) to learn about multiplying different tupes of polynomials.

  • Watch the animations!
  • Take notes as you go!
  • Try the practice problems at the bottom of the website to test yourself.

Go to Mathisfun - Dividing Polynomials (click the link) to learn how to divide polynomials using long division.

  • Watch the animations!
  • Take notes as you go!
  • Try the practice problems at the bottom of the website to test yourself.

If you need more information you can go to Khan Academy (click the link) or your text.

Done! We'll use your knowledge of polynomials to jump into Unit 3 next class!

Evaluation

I am a firm believer in the thought that you are in control of your own education!

You will not be given a grade for this assignment - you either did it to enhance your knowledge of the material and be prepared for the next class or you didn't.
