The Eruption Of Mount Vesuvius

Introduction

On the afternoon of August 24, AD 79, Mount Vesuvius a volcano about 125 miles south of Rome violently errupted. Having no advanced warning, few of the residents of the nearby city of Pompeii had time to run away. Many died from breathing poisonsous gases and fumes. Also many men and woen had been buried by ash during the erruption and when the bodies decomposed, only air pockets were left behind in the ash. Others were trapped in their houses by the deadly shower of hot cingers and ashes. In 3 days the entire city was completely burried by a thick layer of volcanic ash, and the city of Pompeii passed from memory. The good news is that the site of the city was rediscovered in 1748.

The sudden destruction of pompeii stands as a sobering reminder to all students of history.

Conclusion

Human life is fragile and fleeting. As James 4:14 says:

"Ye know not what shall be on the morrrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

So we should attempt to live each day aware of our morality, remembering that at any moment we may leave this life and be ushered into the presence of God.

Congrats on completing your task!
