Run-ons and fragments

Introduction

Run-on Sentences and Fragments

As you know, I expressed a big concern about these (particularly run-ons) last week. This week, we are going to try and fix the problem.

You need to follow the process on the next page.

Task

This is what you need to do:

  1. Watch the first PowerPoint and follow the directions you are given in it. https://drive.google.com/a/aisct.org/?tab=mo#recent
  2. Watch the second PPT as extra help – twice and slowly! http://www.blinn.edu/humanities/writingroom/Understanding%2520Fragments…%...
  3. Read DIRECTIONS Penguins and follow the directions you have been given (20 points).
  4. AT HOME (or in class if you finish early): Find your own online practice tests for run-ons and fragments.
  5. AT HOME: Type up the work you did in class. Name it: Your name (this means put your name, not call it “your name”!) Webquest. In this document, also copy and paste the URL’s of the practice sites you went to and some comments about how you liked them and how successful you were.
  6. Send me the document on EDMODO.
Evaluation

Some of the points for the various activities have been detailed as you have read the information, but here is a summary of the points.

TASK ONE - PPT and Questions - 8 points

TASK TWO - Watch the second PPT TWICE - You must let me know in your document that you did this. 5 points

TASK THREE - Colour code the passage on penguins - 10 points

TASK FOUR - Correct the passage on penguins - 20 points

TASK FIVE - Send me your document on EDMODO with the correct name. 7 (5 for doing it, 2 for the correct name/title) points

TOTAL: 50 points

Conclusion

WELL DONE! Now you should really be more familiar with how to spot and CORRECT run-on sentences and fragments.

From now on, please be responsible for proofreading for these in your own writing - and ELIMINATING them!
