First Aid and Emergency Care Procedures

Introduction

This lesson aims to educate high school students about some basic first aid techniques by using both research and demonstrations to enhance learning.

This Webquest will teach students on how to perform first aid or assst an injured person,until professional medical care arrives.  Certain self-limiting illnesses or minor injuries may not require further medical care.

Task

You will:

1. Recognize the causes and warning signs of various health problems with need of immmediate attention.

2. Learn ways to approach the health problem and how to treat the victim until more qualified help can step in.

3. Involves creative production of a demonstration and develops teamwork skills

1. You will be in a group with five other students. However, you will need to pair up and each set of partners will choose either CPR, heat stroke, or spinal injuries.

2. You and your partner will explore the websites listed below and find another internet resource on your own to answer the following questions for either CPR, heat stroke, or spinal injuries.

  • What causes the condition?
  • What are the warning signs or symptoms?
  • What are the steps you need to take to someone suffering from this condition?
  • What should you NOT do in this situation?
  • What are long-term effects or complications that could be brought about by this condition?
Conclusion

Congratulations!!! You have now completed your First Aid Web quest.

You have learned how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an emergency,how to respond to emergencies and illnesses, and you have created a HANDY First Aid Manual. By doing this, you have now learned how immediate response increases a victim's chance for survival
