This WebQuest will help students to explore any wonderful places in Istanbul.
Task
- A little later, you are will see some beautiful and touristic places of Istanbul.
- After this presentation, you need to write down an essay as if you went to these places. You should write about what you do in these places, did you like it? Why? and whom did you go?
Process
1-Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque)
The Blue Mosque is an historical mosque in Istanbul. The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque because of blue tiles surrounding the walls of interior design. Besides still used as a mosque, the Sultanahmet Mosque has also become a popular tourist attraction in Istanbul.
2-Topkapı Palace
Topkapı Palace was not only the residence of the Ottoman sultans, but also the administrative and educational centre of the state. Initially constructed between 1460 and 1478 by Sultan Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople. Following the abolishment of the Ottoman monarchy in 1922, Topkapı Palace was converted into a museum on April 3rd 1924, on the order of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
3-Grand Bazaar
Grand Bazaar is the heart of İstanbul's Old City and has been so for centuries. Starting as a small vaulted bedesten (warehouse) built by order of Mehmet the Conqueror in 1461. Grand Bazaar is one of the most touristic places in Istanbul. The place welcomes more than 91 million tourists every year. Grand Bazaar has more than 4000 shops in it.
4-Dolmabahçe Palace
Dolmabahce Palace built in 19 th century is one of the most glamorous palaces in the world. It was the administrative center of the late Ottoman Empire with the last of Ottoman Sultans was residing there. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in Ankara, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk transferred all government functions to the youthful capital but on his visits to Istanbul he stayed in Dolmabahce Palace. He welcomed his foreign guests and made national, historical and language congress.
