Task

Todays lesson is Tariffs.                                                                                                       Date: 24 August 2021

Definition

-It is a cost rate that you are charged for consuming a quantity.

Examples of different Tariffs

Water Rates

Electricity

Telephone

Transportation

Tariffs has more or less the same formula, depending on the type of tariff and its respective unit.

E.g Telephone - Rand per unit of time

Rand X amount of time.( this is an example of a linear tariff)

Todays focus is Water tariffs. This is and example of a stepped tariff

Group (kiloliters KL) Cost (Rands R)
0-5 kl      (5) Free(R0,00)
5-15 kl     (10) R3,99/kl
15-20 kl    (5) R8,51/kl
20-50 kl    (30) R12,61

Example

Jaden lives in an apartment alone. His landlord gives him 17 liters of water per day. calculate how much does Jaden pay for the day.

17 kiloliters.

0-5 kl (5) = Free X 5kl(max) = R0,00 (first Bracket)

5-15 kl (10) = R3,99 X 10 kl = R 39,90    ( 5-15 =10 kl) (Second Bracket)

15-17 kl (2) =R8,51 X 2 kl    = R 17, 02 (15kl - 17kl ) (Third Bracket )

                               Total      = R 56,92 per day

Explanation:

If you max out a bracket then your have to find out the difference is then multiply it with the cost

5kl-15kl = 10 kl

10kl X R3.99
