WebQuest Topic: Anticipatory Set for Lord of the Flies

Goals for the WebQuest:

  1. Students will be able to understand why William Golding wrote the novel.
  2. Students will be able to understand reasons for banning a novel.
  3. Students will be able to understand major themes and ideas from the novel.

Introduction

You will soon begin reading the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of English boys, ages 6-13, whose plane crash lands on a deserted island where they end up alone with no adults. The boys decide they are going to run the island as a democracy, which is what they are used to at home. Will this work for their entire time on the island or will they succumb to the dark side of human nature and savagery?

 

**Students will have a Word Document that has the questions and where they will record their answers.

Task

Explore websites on various topics related to the author and background on Lord of the Flies. You will be given a selection of websites related to these issues from which to choose from. After you have answered the background questions, you will tie it all together and create a collage of images based on the information learned.
