Introduction

In this WebQuest you will learn what the Holocaust was, why and how it targeted certain people, and the ultimate results.

Task

Go to www.ushmm.org.  Click on Introduction to the Holocaust.  Answer the following questions on your worksheet.

1.  What is a "holocaust"?

2.  What is the people group most widely targeted by the Holocaust during WW II?

3.  Who else was targeted? 

 

Go to www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/36quest1.html.  Answer the following questions on your worksheet.

4.  How long did the Holocaust last?  From what year to what year?

5.  How many Jews were killed?  How many non-Jews were killed?

6.  Which European country had the biggest percentage of their Jewish population murdered?

7.  In April 1933, what rights or freedoms were taken away from Jewish citizens to begin their destruction?

8.  What was the Nazis' "Final Solution"?

 

Go to www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/catech.htm.  This is a pamphlet used in many German schools.  Answer the following questions about it on your worksheet.

9.  What characteristics of a German person were taught through this pamphlet?

10. How is a Jewish person portrayed in this pamphlet?  What types of behaviors does a Jew exhibit?

Go go https://www.youtube.com/user/YadVashem.  Choose one of the videos from the list called "Torchlighters 2017" and watch it.  Then answer the following questions about it on your worksheet.

13. What is the name of the person whose video you chose?

14. Take notes on their experience with the Holocaust.

 

Go to http://www.annefrank.org/en/Subsites/Home/Enter-the-3D-house/#/house/20/.  This is a 3D tour of the Secret Annex where Anne Frank lived.  View at least 4 of the rooms then answer the following questions about it on your worksheet.

15.  List each room you viewed and make note of at least 2 things that caught your eye/interest while looking at the room.

16. How do you think you would have responded to having to live in this space and just this space for several years without a break?  Respond in at least 4-6 sentences.
