Introduction

Introduction

The periodic table contains all the elements known to humans. It is arranged in a very specific way that helps us predict many different properties of elements based on where they are in the periodic table. In this Webquest, you will be learning about how the periodic table is arranged and some of the properties we can predict based on this arrangement.

Task

Part 1

Take this online quiz to test your prior knowledge!

Part 2

Watch this video on how the periodic table is arranged.

Part 3

Log into Khan Academy and complete the assigned period table trends lessons:

Evaluation

Retake the quiz you took at the beginning to test how your knowledge has grown!

Next, take your copy of the periodic table and add arrows showing the trends for atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity.

Congrats! You are done with this Webquest!

Teacher Page

This Webquest has been created to introduce high school chemistry students to periodic table organization and trends.

Standard: HS-PS1-1. Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
