International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Introduction

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is celebrated annually on April 6th. This day is dedicated to recognizing the potential of sport in fostering positive social change, bridging societal barriers and transcending boundaries. Established by the United Nations General Assembly, this day emphasizes sport’s vital role in advancing peace, equality, and inclusive growth. 

As a growing force for social good, sport is increasingly recognized for its ability to empower disadvantaged populations and promote social inclusion, peace, and justice. The 2025 theme, “Leveling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion” highlights how sport can be a dynamic tool for tackling social issues, such as gender and racial inequality, and fostering greater inclusion for all. 

Task

By cempleting this WebQuest students will:

  • Investigate and interpret how sport contributes to equality, inclusion, teamwork and social justice,.

  • Formulate and refine meaningful interview questions that demonstrate inquiry, active listening and respectful communication with athletes.

  • Produce and present an interview in a chosen format, developing digital literacy, creativity and effective communication skills.

Step 1: Explore the 2025 theme of International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Get informed about the annual theme of 'International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2025' so as to realize how sport promotes equality, resilience, teamwork and social justice.

Step 3: Present your interview

Present the interview in any format you want (video, podcast, newspaper-style article, digital poster, magazine page etc).

Through this WebQuest, students deepen their understanding of how sport can inspire resilience and promote social inclusion. By researching the 2025 theme, preparing thoughtful interview questions and presenting athletes’ stories creatively, they connect global values with local experiences and strengthen their ability to communicate, collaborate and advocate for positive change in their communities.

Finally, they enhanced their empathy and social awareness, gaining a deeper understanding of athletes’ experiences and the role of sport in promoting equality and resilience.
